Design Element: The Lone Chair

One of my favorite design elements is using a special chair as part of a vignette. It may be at the end of a hallway, in a foyer, or maybe next to a claw foot tub to hold a candle or book.

I think this type of chair can be any style, color, fabric, you name it. It's a wild card chair that you can really have some fun with.

It can be extremely versatile too. Especially during the holidays when you have a house full of guests. From an extra seat at the dining table, to the living room for cocktails or if you host football watch parties.

Here are some of my favorite spaces that use a lone chair.

Daniel Romualdez

This Louis XVI chair in deep blue becomes part of this vignette of art and chinoiserie screen.

Darryl Carter

This chair would be so easy to move around the house as needed.

Hillary Design

Love this sculptural chair paired with large scaled abstract artwork.

Renea Abbott

Frank Faulkner

Chairs don't necessarily have to be used for seating. They can hold your hat for you!

Amy Morris and Greg Palmer

Traditional Home

A chair in the Foyer is the perfect spot to put on your shoes.

Lela Cyd Ross for Apartment Therapy

Jean Louis Deniot

It can also be a great hideaway to do some reading.

Nina Griscom

J. Randall Powers

Hillary Thomas

Beth Webb

Frank Babb

Jeffrey Bilhuber

It's also a great way to hold on to an antique chair from your grandparents that holds special sentimental value.

What do you think? Will you find a spot to add a special chair in your home?
