Benjamin Dhong's Latest Beauty

Have you guys seen October's House Beautiful?

After last month's less than impressive issue, and quite frankly, mediocre issues since their new EIC took the helm, I was really about to cancel my subscription.

This month's content is great. A lot of spaces I really loved.

BUT, has anyone else noticed the paper is thinner? Like the dreaded tell-tale sign that a magazine is in trouble?

Hopefully there are more issues to come like their current one.

The cover shot is design genius, Benjamin Dhong's latest creation in Napa. Take a look!

You can enjoy the full tour and article, here.

Traditional is Patient, It will wait for you.

I've been reading comments from other designers & bloggers lately, that they're tired of their trendy pieces like MCM furniture, industrial pipe shelving, Beni Rugs and Poufs. They are ready to get rid of them and go back to Traditional!

With the saturation of design trends seen on Pinterest, Houzz and Instagram, when a trend is done, it is DONE!

So when you are Sooo tired of Sputniks, Ghost chairs, Burlap and Grain sacks, that you're ready to clear the room and start anew, Traditional will be there to give you a breath of fresh air.  Traditional is not jealous of MCM or French Farmhouse, it has been waiting patiently for you to return to the Classics!

Traditional is calming, comfortable, familiar and pleasing to the eye.
There's a reason it has stood the test of time. The proportions are perfect. It is balanced. Palettes are cohesive and relate to the architecture of the home.

Here are some of my favorite Traditional spaces.  They are the images I reference when I feel my spaces are feeling a bit on the trendy side of things rather than classic and timeless.

Inspiring Home of the Week

I love this space because although it has a neutral palette, it does so in bold fashion.

The stained wood has such warmth and depth which is only heightened by using tobacco leather chairs and crisp white upholstery as a staunch contrast.

This is a sexy home!

I would wear white linen all day every day and sip espresso while doing New York Times crossword puzzles.

Designer Nina Griscom

For yesterday's post, as I was verifying my image sources, I assumed the image below was designed by Darryl Carter. I would have bet money on it.

I was wrong! (Husband, if you're reading... Yes, I know, there's a first time for everything.)

The designer is Nina Griscom.

After seeing more of her work, I am smitten.

Here she is in her Manhattan store (now closed) that sold home furnishings, both new and beautiful vintage pieces.

After a little research, I quickly discovered that she is a woman of many talents.

Nina Griscom attended Porter's and Barnard College before becoming a model and actress.
She was also a co-host of the show "Dining Around" on the Food Network where she was also a judge on Iron Chef.

In her latest venture, she has designed a line of handbags for Gigi New York.

She also writes a lifestyle blog about design, travel and food. You can see more at ninagriscom.com.

Take a look at her work and see what a true talent she is!
